WOW Substack Is WEIRD About This
Wondering why you're not hearing much from me?!? There's a reason...
If you’re like me, you sometimes find out that you signed up for something but don’t even remember it…and then suddenly you hear from that thing (a website, a business, a bizarre cousin) and think “what’s that about again?”
Well, that might be happening to you right now. You’re getting this email from me because, well, you’re a free subscriber to me—Matt Robison (see slightly dated head shot below where I have like 10% more brown hair left than I do today). But you might not have heard much from me. Why?!?
Because Substack is WEIRD about this.
What substack encourages everyone to do is to create a “publication.” So when I launched my substack, I did that, and published all my awesome stuff to it. But I also still ended up getting about 500 subscribers over here to the account under my name (and look, it’s possible I screwed this up and somehow pushed people over to my personal name account before figuring out how this works—I’m a former campaign manager and congressional staffer who become a writer...not exactly adept at platform navigation). It’s confusing, it’s annoying, and I’m not sure why Substack does this.
And it feels like this isn’t serving anyone very well either, right?! You signed up because you thought you might get some interesting content from me. I work pretty hard over at Worth Knowing to create that content: articles, livestreams, and videos on things that are under-reported and very worth knowing about. And here we are, barely acquainted!
SOOOO…I’d like to invite you to subscribe to my publication—Worth Knowing.
Over there, my free subscribers are getting weekly livestreams like yesterday’s with former DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and last week’s with top economist Mark Zandi. They’re getting my articles for Newsweek like “The Trump Administration Just Grabbed the Third Rail.” And they’re getting short, punchy, interesting looks into topics that connect the dots amid the sea of noise out there [and of course, paid subscribers get a lot more…but one step at a time here!]
Look, if you prefer to just stay over here…no problem. You won’t get any email from me, but hey, you might catch my postings to the Substack Notes app more often. I even understand if you want to unsubscribe. But I hope you’ll consider quickly converting your free subscription over to my publication (just enter your email in the box below) and getting what you actually thought you signed up for in the first place!
Cheers!!!
